Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) replied that, “Why should I not be happy and
joyous? At this very moment Sayyiduna Jibra’el Ameen (alaihis salaam) has
brought me a message. Almighty Allah has declared, ‘O MUHAMMAD! Are you not
pleased with this, that if any of your followers sends a single Durood upon
you, I and My Angels (Malaa’ikah) send ten blessings upon that person, ten of
his sins are pardoned and ten good deeds are recorded in his favour. He who

Be Upon Him) was sitting in the Masjid when a person entered to perform his
Salaah. After the Salaah, the person made Du’a to Almighty Allah in the
following manner, “O Allah! Please forgive me and have mercy on me”. On hearing
this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) stated, “O Reciter of the
Salaah! You have been extremely hasty. When you complete the Salaah, you must
first praise Almighty Allah according to His Magnificence and then read the
Durood Shareef. Only then should you beg Almighty Allah for what you
desire”.Soon after this another person entered the Masjid. When that person
completed his Salaah he began to praise Almighty Allah and then recited the
Durood Shareef. Seeing this, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said to
the person, “O Reciter of the Salaah, ask, for certainly your Du’a will be
answered”. (Tirmidhi)

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu)
narrates that, “I read my Salaah in the Masjid when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah
(Peace Be Upon Him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (Radi Allahu Anhuma)
were present. When I had completed the Salaah, I began to praise Almighty
Allah. Thereafter, I began to read the Durood Shareef. When I started the Du’a,

quickly as possible”. (Shifa Shareef)
Hadith 17
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “On
the Day of Qiyamah there will be a group of people around the Fountain of
Kauther whom I will recognise as those who used to read the Durood Shareef in
abundance”. (Shifa Shareef)O Muslims! Imagine the Hour of Qiyamah! It will be
an hour of immense intensity. When the sun will be one mile above one’s head
and when the earth will be like a boiling oven. Neither will one be able to
hide one’s head nor will water be found. Man’s perspiration will reach his
lips. On the other hand, imagine those who will be comfortable under the cool
shade and enjoying the cool goblets of drink due to their reading of the Durood
Shareef. These fortunate people will also be enjoying the sacred company of
Almighty Allah’s beloved Habeeb (Peace Be Upon Him). O Allah! Bestow upon all
Muslims, the strength to read as much Durood as
possible. Aameen. In the book, “Shawaa’idul-Haqq”, Sayyiduna Shaikh
Abu Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrates the following incident.
The presence of the four Caliphs at the four Pillars
of Kauther is also substantiated by a Hadith. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be
Upon Him) said, “The Fountain of Kauther possesses four Pillars: one commanded
by Abu Bakr, the second by Umar, the third by Uthman and the fourth by Ali
(Radi Allahu Anhum)”.Again, explaining the lofty status of these four Caliphs,
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “He who speaks good about Abu
Bakr, his religion is well established; he who speaks good about Umar, his
religious path has been well grounded’ he who speaks good about Uthman is
enlightened with the Noor of Almighty Allah’ and he who speaks good about Ali
holds on to a bond that never breaks. They who speak well of my Sahaba
(Companions) are truly Mu’mins”. (Shawaa’idul Haqq)

who recites a single Durood upon me will be blessed a ten times by Almighty

Hadith 20
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “He
who reads a single Durood will be blessed ten times by Almighty Allah while he
who reads ten Durood Shareefs will be blessed a hundred times by Almighty
Allah. Almighty Allah has also imprints an invisible message on the person’s
forehead which will read, ‘This slave is free from Hypocrisy and the Fire of
Hell’. On the Day of Qiyamah, he will be with the Shaheeds”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 21
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (Radi Allahu Anhu)
narrates: We, the Sahaba, used to spend day and night in the company of
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him). The reason being that we never
separated from him was so that we could be of assistance to him in any matter.
One day as Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) left his house, I followed
him. He entered an orchard and he went into Salaah. He prolonged his Sajdah to
such a degree that I began to cry with the thought that perhaps his soul had
been taken away. When he completed his Sajdah, he came up to me and asked as to
what the problem was. I replied, “O Nabi of Allah, I thought that maybe
Almighty Allah had taken away your blessed soul and that I would never be able
to see you again”.Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) replied, “Verily,
my Creator has rewarded me. Therefore, I prolonged the Sajdah. The reward which
I speak about was that my Creator has promised me that whosoever amongst my
Ummah reads a single Durood, ten of his sins are pardoned and he is rewarded
with ten good deeds”. (Saadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 22
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) once
proceeded alone towards an open field. When Sayyiduna Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu)
saw that he was alone, he became worried and followed him with a container of
water. As he drew near, he saw that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him)
was in Sajdah so he moved and sat at one side. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah
(Peace Be Upon Him) had completed the Sajdah, he remarked, “O Umar! You have
done good by moving away when you saw me in Sajdah. Sayyiduna Jibra’el Ameen
(alaihis salaam) has brought a message from Almighty Allah saying that any
person among my Ummah who reads a single Durood, then Almighty Allah will bless
him ten times and will also increase him in status”.This very Hadith has also
been recorded by Imam Bukhari (Radi Allahu Anhu) in his book, “Adaabul Mufrad”.
Hadith 23
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “He
who reads a single Durood upon me, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times. It is
now up to the individual to increase the Durood or not”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 24
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “He
who reads a single Durood, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times, pardons ten of
his sins and Almighty Allah increases his status ten fold (internally). This is
also equal to freeing ten slaves”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 25
Sayyiduna Aamir bin Rabi’ah (Radi Allahu Anhu)
narrates that he heard Nabi MUHAMMAD (Peace Be Upon Him) say in a sermon that,
“As long as the slave of Almighty Allah is reading the Durood, the Angels
(Malaa’ikah) bless him. It is now up to the individual to either increase or
decrease the recital Durood Shareef”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 26
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique (Radi Allahu Anhu)
narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) say, “For that
person who reads the Durood, I will be his intercessor on the Day of Qiyamah”.
(Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 27
It is narrated that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be
Upon Him) once declared to a Sahabi, “O Abi Kaahil! That person who reads the
Durood Shareef thrice every day and night out of love and reverence for me,
verily, Almighty Allah considers it necessary to forgive the daily sins of that
person”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 28
Sayyidah Ayesha Siddiqa (radi Allahu anha) narrates
that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “The person who desires
that Almighty Allah be pleased with him or her when they are in the Court of
Allah, that person should increase the recital of the Durood Shareef”. (Kashful
Gumma)
Hadith 29
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “If
you forget about anything, you should read the Durood Shareef. By the grace of
Almighty Allah, you will remember (what you have forgotten)”. (Sadaatud Daarain)Commentary:
It is mentioned that Sayyiduna Khwaja Qaazi Mohammed Sultaan-e-Aalam Meerpuri
(Radi Allahu Anhu), in whose court great Scholars and Saints used to frequent,
was in the habit of reading the Durood Shareef continuously. Whenever a
question was put to him, he used to immediately point out the answer quoting
the book and the page. Others used to find the answer after great search. But
this Saint used to merely place his finger on the book and while reading the
Durood Shareef used to open the exact page. This was through the Barakah of the
Durood Shareef.
Hadith 30
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) has advised
his Ummah, “O my Ummah! Read the Durood abundantly because the first question
that will be asked in the grave will be concerning me”. (Kashful
Gumma)Commentary: One must bear in mind that the words “first question”
actually means the most important question! One is urged to increase the
recital of the Durood Shareef. By doing so, one’s love and reverence for
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) is increased. This will be of immense
advantage in the grave. It is such a pity that modern Muslims sceptically
question others about the status of love that one should possess for Sayyiduna
Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him). All we can say to them is: the grave will be
your place of realisation!
The following incident highlights the plight of the
modern Muslim.
There were once two scholars who decided to debate
about the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him). The debate
was held and continued for seven days. On the morning of the eight day, the
scholar who was trying to prove the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace
Be Upon Him) stood before the crowd and proclaimed, “O People! listen, whatever
be the outcome of this debate, let it be so. But let us inspect our destiny. I
have hardly slept for the past seven nights because the majority of my time was
spent finding proofs to the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon
Him). I am sure that the opposing scholar must have spent his time in like
manner. Yet, how unfortunate for him in that all the while he was looking for
proofs to disprove the greatness of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him).
How fortunate for me that I was searching the proofs to prove the greatness of
my Nabi”.When the opposing scholar heard this declaration, it was as if a veil
was removed from his eyes. He replied, “Certainly, he is right! How wretched I
am! I have spent all the while looking for proofs to belittle the Prophet. Only
now do I realise how unfortunate I am. I, therefore, divorce all affiliation to
that group who merely claim to be Muslims by name. Their sole purpose is to rob
the Muslims of pure Imaan”.
Hadith 31
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “On
the Pillars of the Arsh of Almighty Allah are written the following words, ‘He
who desires to meet Me, I bless him. He who asks from Me, I grant him. He who
reads the Durood upon my Habeeb (Peace Be Upon Him) desiring My closeness, I
pardon his sins, even if it be more than the foams of the ocean'”. (Dalaa’ilul
Khayraat)
Hadith 32
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “He
who reads the following Durood, ‘Allahuma salli ala MUHAMMAD wa an zil hul
Maq-adatil Mubaarakah indaka Yaumul Qiyamah’, my intercession becomes Waajib
upon him”. (At Targheeb)
Hadith 33
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “When
two friends meet and shake hands and, thereafter, both read the Durood Shareef
before they separate, their past and future sins are pardoned”. (Nuzhatun
Naazireen)
Hadith 34
Sayyiduna Zaid (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrates that he
once accompanied Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) for a walk. When
they reached a small hill, a Bedouin approached them and greeted Sayyiduna
Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him). Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him)
asked, “O Bedouin! When you were approaching us, what were you reading?” The
Bedouin replied, “O Nabi of Allah, I was reading the Durood, ‘Allahuma Sallim
ala MUHAMMAD hatta laa tabqa salaatah, Allahuma Baarik ala MUHAMMAD hatta laa
tabqa Barakaah. Allahuma Sallim ala MUHAMMAD hatta laa tabqa Salaam. Allahuma
irham ala MUHAMMAD hatta laa tabqa rahmaah'”. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be
Upon Him) remarked, “Indeed, I saw the Angels (Malaa’ikah) from that place
(meaning were the Bedouin was) till the Heavens”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 35
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahmaan bin Samrah (Radi Allahu Anhu)
narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “Tonight I have
truly seen a strange sight. I saw one of my followers crossing the Pul-Siraat.
At times he was walking, at times falling, and at times he was hanging on. Then
I saw that the Durood which he had once read come to his assistance. It grabbed
hold of the person, straightened him and led him safely across the Pul-Siraat”.
(Al Qolul Badi)

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “O my

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “O my
followers! Your recital of the Durood Shareef is a protector for your Du’as. It
also achieves for you the Pleasure of Almighty Allah and it purifies your
actions”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 38
It is stated that no person used to sit between
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (Radi Allahu
Anhu) in a gathering. One day, a person arrived and sat in between them. This
surprised the Sahaba. When the individual had departed, they inquired from
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) about this. He replied, “He is also
one of my beloved followers. Whenever he reads the Durood Shareef, he reads,
‘Allahuma salli ala MUHAMMAD kama tahibbu wa tarda lahu'”. (Sadaatud
Daarain)Commentary: We realise from this Hadith that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah
(Peace Be Upon Him) is well aware of the actions of his Ummah. Shah Abdul Aziz
(rahmatullahi alaih) substantiates this by saying, “Sayyiduna Rasoolullah
(Peace Be Upon Him) will be a Witness on the Day of Qiyamah because he is able
to see each person with the light of Nabuwah. He comprehends whether a person
has reached a certain stage in Faith or not. He also understands the obstacles
that face each person. Therefore, remember, that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace
Be Upon Him) comprehends your sins, your state of Imaan, the good and the
hypocrisy in each individual”. (Tafseer Azeezi: Surah Baqarah)
Hadith 39
Sayyiduna Samrah (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrates that they
were present with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) when a person
arrived and asked, “O Nabi of Allah! What are the beloved actions with Allah?”
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) replied, “Speak the truth and fulfil
your trust”. When asked further, he replied, “To perform the Tahajjud and to
fast in Summer”. When asked further, he replied, “To increase the Zikr of
Almighty Allah and to read the Durood Shareef as it eradicates poverty”. When
asked further, he replied, “The Imaam of the congregation should shorten the
duration of the Salaah, for among the congregation are those who are elderly,
sick, children and those involved in trade”. (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 40
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “He
who records a Durood in a book and as long as my name is in that book, the
Angels (Malaa’ikah) seek forgiveness for that person”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 41
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “He
who writes any knowledgable matter about me and with it also writes the Durood
Shareef upon me, then as long as the book is read, the writer will receive the
reward (for having written the Durood Shareef)”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 42
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “On
the Day of Qiyamah, Almighty Allah will bring forward the Scholars and
Muhadditheen. Their ink will be of sweet scent. When they are placed in the
Court of the Almighty, He will proclaim, ‘For a long period, you have recited
the Durood Shareef upon My Messenger. Therefore, O Malaa’ikah, take them into
Jannah'”. (Sadaatud Daarain)
Hadith 43
It is mentioned that a person came to Sayyiduna
Rasoolullah (Peace Be Upon Him) and complained to him about poverty and

of yours who revere Your Bounties. They recite the Revealed Book and send
Durood Shareef upon Your beloved Messenger. They supplicate to You (asking
good) for the present and the Hereafter’.”In reply to this, Almighty Allah
declares, ‘Surround them with My Mercy’. The Angels reply that there was also

there to assist them. When they rest, they are guarded by Angels from the
Heavens to the Earth. The Angels inscribe the Durood Shareef that the Awtaad is
reading with pens of gold on Plates of silver. They bless the Awtaads with the
words, ‘Increase your Zikr and Durood Shareef. May Almighty Allah have Mercy
upon you and may He increase His reward and Blessing upon you’. When the Awtaad
reads the Zikr, a door is opened to him in the Heavens and his Du’a is
